Pluralsight
From 18 months without a release to shipping in one
An analytics team hadn't shipped anything customer-facing in 18 months. A leadership change and a clear near-term goal got them shipping within a month.
The problem
As Director of Product over Pluralsight’s enterprise business, I inherited an analytics team that hadn’t shipped anything customer-facing in 18 months. The work was unfinished and the direction unclear.
What I did
- Made a leadership change. I brought in a new leader from another function, a bet on potential rather than title.
- Reset the goal. I gave the team a clear, near-term target instead of an open-ended rebuild.
What changed
- Within a month, the team shipped an analytics widget that signaled the alliance with GitPrime, which Pluralsight had just acquired.
- With momentum back, the team took on a rebuild of the full analytics experience.
